I am home now, back in the United States. I've been negligent in posting or updating and I apologize. I have been home for over a week now and it has been a bit in adjustment.

Readjusting to home life isn't quite what I thought it would be. It was about a week to finish up out processing before being released on leave, and that time was a bit of a blur, with a lot of administrative requirements.

I've spent a lot of the time back irritable and edgy, random periods of sleep, and fiddling around with not much of anything. It is slower here and not a life lived on the edge, for sure. Equilibrium is off, emotions are as well. I can't say I was even happy to get back at first, if anything, I was depressed and anxious. I wasn't one of those guys kissing the ground when we got off the plane. There's a whole world back in Iraq that most people know nothing about, maybe a news clip or article if that, and they will never know. For some it will not even give them a pause as they go through life, which to me didn't seem right the first day back in the US. All the people back in Iraq live a very foreign life from existence here in the US. I can see how veterans have a hard time adjusting as this is like trying to make a 180 degree direction change while going very very fast.

I plan on posting a few more times and throwing up some more pictures once I dig through them. Not sure where the blog will go from here, but I have some more to write on both Iraq and life now back in the US, kind of wrap up the tour and complete the blog, if you will.

I was wondering when you were going to be home. I'm sure it will take some time to get aclimated again to your surroundings and slow down a bit. I can't imagine what it's like for you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings. I'm so glad you are home!

I am so glad to see you. I know right now everything must seem forgien and difficult from what I have read most soldiers experience this. I pray for you since the day I met you on here and I am glad to see you safe. I can't imagine what everything must be like for you. Thank you! Thank you for everything you have sacrificed than, now and in the future! I can only pray and hope that all the soldiers make it home! You made it and I am grateful. I am running just a bit here and so for that I am sorry. Be GOOD to yourself. With Love, Maria

I know it's not easy but hang in there and just try to roll with it. Hopefully your life will soon get back to some semblance of normalcy, whatever that may mean.

Take care of yourself, CS.

oh CS... I'm so happy to hear that you are back and well (physically at least..you are, right?)

it's gotta be hard and i can only imagine what you must be going through.. but be courageous (more than when you were away, cuz the battle with our own emotions can be harder than battling with other humans..)

you're in my prayers... :)

You're right. It's terrible that the world in which you've lived for the past year has little impact or notice here. It's wrong. Your blog has done a little to change that. You brought awareness to people. That's a good thing.

I'm glad to hear that you're safe at home, even if it feels like everything's up in the air. I can't imagine the transition that you're going through right now...

welcome home. take it slow and easy. I asked my kid and his wife how they felt when they went back to Germany after their tour in the Sand. Strange, and detached, and very cranky was one answer. so take care, and if you need help, you are smart enough to ask for it!
and let your family dote, and weep a bit... they need it too.

Such a relief to learn that you returned safely! Welcome back and know that so many people care about you and all of our soldiers; more than you know. Please take it a day at a time. If you need to vent, to share, to question, we are here.....

Welcome back CS! I'm so happy to hear that you are safe, and so sad to hear about all of the adjustments you must make. I can only imagine what you must deal with, now. It's probably pretty surreal, going from that extreme to "normal life". Take care of yourself & remember we're all pulling for you, no matter where you are!

Welcome home!

Relieved to see you made it out safely.

Don't stress about the adjustment. It takes as long as it takes. You can't judge it on anyone's timetable than your own.

You must be feeling a total disconnect in your life, the disparities have been so great between there and here. I wish you well in your adaptions and reflections as you re-adjust.

Welcome home. Your period of readjustment is perfectly normal. The important thing is you are back and you are safe and you will have the time to assimilate all that you have experienced.
